Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith – The Heartbeat Behind the Music

Great drumming isn’t about playing the most notes it’s about making people feel something.

For more than two decades, I’ve dedicated my life to creating grooves that move audiences, support artists, and bring songs to life. Whether performing on festival stages, recording in the studio, or backing legendary musicians, my goal has always been the same: serve the music first.

As the son of Grammy Award-winning drummer Willie “Big Eyes” Smith of the Muddy Waters Band, I grew up surrounded by the sounds and traditions of American roots music. Those experiences gave me a deep respect for the blues while inspiring me to develop my own voice behind the drums.

My playing combines traditional blues feel with modern energy, drawing influences from blues, soul, rock, funk, and contemporary music. I believe the best drummers create a foundation that allows everyone else on stage to shine.

Throughout my career, I’ve been honored to receive multiple Blues Music Awards for Instrumentalist – Drums, but the greatest reward continues to be connecting with audiences through live performance.

Today, I perform with a variety of artists and projects while continuing to explore new ways to bring blues music to new generations. Whether on stage, in the studio, or collaborating across genres, I’m always searching for the perfect groove—the one that makes people tap their feet, move their bodies, and remember the song long after the music ends.

Music changes, technology changes, and audiences change, but one thing remains the same: great rhythm brings people together.
