RELEASES NEW CD,“DROP THE HAMMER”

(CHICAGO, IL)Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith, one of the most in-demand blues musicians globally, announced the release of his latest CD, “Drop The Hammer.”  All twelve original tracks on this new album were written, performed, and produced by Kenny on drums and vocals backed up by his new band, the House Bumpers.  

As much as Kenny loves traditional blues, his new album focuses on the contemporary subject matter while using modern and innovative sounds, taking his blues to a new realm and dimension.

“I didn’t live and experience picking cotton in the fields,” Smith said. “I grew up in Chicago, and my inspiration for this album was drawn from the rhythm of footsteps on jagged pavement and the soulful and shadowy sounds of the city at night.

Kenny honors the blues legends he admired by laying down a few traditional tracks. Still, much of his playing was molded by the teaching of his legendary late father, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, who was the drummer for Muddy Waters for 18 years.

“I’ve wanted to produce and perform on a raw, edgy album exactly like this with my own, hand-picked band for many years,” Smith added. “I’m excited and proud to see “Drop The Hammer” finally become a reality.

Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith is a progressive musician and talented producer who has won numerous, prestigious awards, including a Grammy in 2011 for “Joined at the Hip”with the late Pinetop Perkins and his father, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith.

ABOUT KENNY “BEEDY EYES” SMITH

 Kenny Smith grew up in the same house where Muddy Waters once lived in Chicago. Throughout his childhood, Kenny was surrounded by Muddy and his friends, which included his own father, the late Willie “Big Eyes” Smith. These same blues icons helped mold him into the person and drummer he is today and later in life asked him to provide his famous backbeat on some of the largest and most respected stages and recordings in the world. Kenny has performed and recorded on several CDs and live performances. Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith, one of the top living blues drummers today, learned 99% of what he knows about drumming from his father. He was also inspired by acclaimed drummers: Odie Payne, Fred Below, Earl Phillips, S. P. Leary, Francis Clay, Art Blakey, and many others who paved the way. Kenny’s latest CD, “Drop The Hammer,”is born from Kenny’s very own interpretation of the blues as he pushes traditional blues drumming to new and innovative styles.
